Report of visits to wards 32-33 at UHCW

Read about our visits to wards and what people told us about their care, recommendations and response from the hospital.

We visited wards 32 and 33 at University Hospital Coventry  in July 2023. We talked to patients, some staff and carried out observations to understand care on the wards.

People raised issues related to:

  • Half of those we spoke to feeling listened to and half not
  • On Ward 32 four patients saying they had felt embarrassed due to the way they were cared for – issues included access to the toilet
  • Some patients reporting being moved within the hospital in the middle of the night.
  • Patients feeling they did not have enough information about hospital discharge and what would happen.

We made five recommendations to managers at the Hospital and their response is added into the report.

These visits are part of a programme of ward visits agreed by the Healthwatch Coventry Steering Group based on a review of experiences shared from local people highlighting a need to find out more about patient experiences of care, communication, and discharge.
