Out and About in Coventry: Community Voices

Spotlight on Edgefest
An image of three ice cream cones with ice cream in them

Thank you to Edgewick Primary School for inviting us to their Edgefest, where children, parents and staff enjoyed the summer sunshine with music, stalls and most importantly ice cream.

We were among the stalls offering information and listening to the voices of local people. What a lovely atmosphere and school environment.

Listening to local people

As Healthwatch we work together with groups to improve health in Coventry

We were able to speak to 30 people, raise awareness of Healthwatch Coventry, and meet some of the younger residents and parents from Foleshill village. Some of their thoughts were: -

  • “My GP is really good and understands me”.
  • “My health visitor and community midwife were really good”
  • “They could spend more time talking to me”

It was good to know there are positive experiences of GPs in Foleshill.

Information about Foleshill

Foleshill is a vibrant, multicultural area of the city with a strong sense of community whose population is around  34 thousand, has a relatively young population with over 100 different spoken languages. It was good to speak to the parents at the school.  It is also an at-risk area in terms of healthy neighbourhoods with poor air quality, and higher levels of “dangerous dependencies” e.g. smoking and belonging to families who are less well off. It is important to hear their voices to help and improve our health services
