A Case study of how our Information service has helped a local resident

We empowered a person with a viable pathway to pursue more suitable support.

Edith contacted our service after being diagnosed with PTSD. Following her diagnosis, her GP initiated a referral for specialist support. However, the only organisation available through this referral pathway was one that Edith believes contributed to the development of her PTSD. The GP advised that there were no alternative services available, leaving Edith feeling distressed and disheartened.

With Edith’s consent, we escalated the issue to the Integrated Care Board (ICB) to explore potential alternatives. The ICB advised that Edith’s GP could submit an application through the Individual Funding Request (IFR) process to seek approval for support from a different provider.

We communicated this information clearly to Edith and supported her in understanding the next steps, ensuring she felt informed and confident to advocate for her needs.

Outcomes & Impact achieved

Edith was empowered with a viable pathway to pursue more suitable support. By identifying the IFR route, she now has the opportunity to access services that feel safe and appropriate for her recovery.

Conclusion

This case highlights the importance of person-centred care and advocacy when standard referral pathways do not meet individual needs. Through timely intervention and collaboration with the ICB, Edith was able to move closer to receiving trauma-informed support aligned with her circumstances.
