Out and About in Coventry: Community Voices
As part of our role, we want to hear from groups who feel marginalised or who feel they have no say in the way health services meet their needs. We want to hear from all of the different communities that experience health and care services.
Evidence shows that “LGBTQ people still too often face hostility and are inappropriately treated because of their gender identity, trans status and/or sexual orientation”
Although not enough is known about this due a lack of data about people’s sexuality within research and government census. Find out more
To raise awareness of Healthwatch Coventry we attended the Pride Celebration at Far Gosford Street
Pride is a multi /faceted experience and group for people from across the LGBTQUI+ to bring people together and celebrate their identity with stalls, music and performances, it was a good place to raise awareness that Healthwatch Coventry wants to hear the voices of all its citizens.
Connections made
We were able to speak to other groups and make connections and reconnections with groups supporting members of this diverse, encompassing and inclusive community to engage with us.
These groups are: -
BHA for Equality Coventry and Warwickshire Sexual Health providing support around sexual health and wellbeing.

LGBTQ Foundation a national charity providing support for the LGBTQ+ community
Global Majority of Queers Open Arms – provides academic and creative opportunities for people of colour who consider themselves queer, contact through events.
Pride in Coventry – organisers of the event.
We also work with Unity in Cov, a group who are established to create safe and inclusive places for everyone in Coventry see.
Next Steps
With the five groups we connected with, we will keep them informed of our work.
Looking to collaborate in the future to hear members of the LGBTQ+ community’s experiences of health and social care to improve services for everyone.
