Community diagnostic centre meeting people's needs

Arrival, welcome and navigating - what works for people.

As part of a national plan to improve access to diagnostic tests like scans and x-rays Coventry is getting a new Community Diagnostic Centre.

This will be built within an existing building and will be finished in 2025.

Healthwatch Coventry has been working to make sure that local people have a say over the design.

We held a discussion group where local people heard about the plans and talked about:

  • What makes good and bad signage and way finding?
  • What will help you and others to feel welcome, clear about where to go and what will happen?

This briefing report is the write up of what people said, which we have shared with the project managers for the new Centre.

We will continue to work with them as the centre moves into the build phase.

Themes highlighted:

  • Use of pictures to help with language needs and to be clear for all
  • People to help – the human touch
  • Direction arrows/lines
  • Meeting the different needs of different people
  • For signage use of the best fonts, text size, and a preference for number system rather than alphabet-based systems eg Area 1 not area A.
