Report of visit to ward 42 at UHCW

Read what we found from our visit and the hospital's response

We visited ward 42 at University Hospital Coventry on the 2nd and 9th of November 2023.

We talked to patients, some staff and carried out observations to understand care on the wards. We found:

  •  The ward was welcoming, and staff were interacting with each other and with patients.
  • Nearly all the participants said the care they received was good and privacy and dignity was maintained.
  • Patients praised the care from Health Care Assistants.
  • Discharge was something patients felt unsure about and wanted more information and reassurance about
  • Food was an issue for some people in terms of variety and options for people with different dietary requirements.

We made five recommendations to managers at the Hospital and their response is within  the report.

These visits are part of a programme of ward visits agreed by the Healthwatch Coventry Steering Group based on a review of experiences shared from local people highlighting a need to find out more about patient experiences of care, communication, and discharge.
