How Healthwatch Coventry reviews local NHS and social care services
We listen to what people are saying about NHS and social care services in Coventry and look for trends. We use this information to form a work programme and to inform information that we pass on to service planners and managers.
So for example a lot of people are concerned about access to and car parking at the UHCW hospital site in Walsgrave Coventry. So we carried out an 'enter and view visit' to survey people using the hospital and to carry out observations of traffic flow. We spoke to 640 people and produced a report and recommendations which was sent to hospital managers and the City Council. The hospital response to our recommendations and we now sit on group they have set up to address the issue. UHCW put in some additional parking and have developed plans to change the site layout and put in more car parking which went to the Council for planning approval.
We do regular work to follow up on the quality priorities set by NHS Trusts and have the right to produce a written comment on their quality work to be included in annual Quality Accounts. Find out more.
We also help individual people directly with information about NHS and social care services and with advocacy support for people making NHS complaints.
